The Beloved Schoggi
A tour of the Lindt & Sprüngli chocolate factory

Fabricano
“ZOVANI CO PRIMA ALTRE MASINE PUCE TISE SILA . . .”
Just one example of a
fabricano phrase, that would translate as
“Giovanni, go and clean the other machine first, leave this one
alone.”

Fabricano
is the name given to the unique words and phrases
spoken by the factory workers of Lindt & Sprüngli. Primarily a mix
of Italian and Swiss German, the lingo also has influences of
Serbian, Spanish, and Portuguese. Also referred to as
Spaniano
or
Spitalian, fabricano is a true reflection of Lindt & Sprüngli’s
multi-ethnic and multicultural workforce.
The factory in Kilchberg employs just over 300 people, with
staff increasing during the busy seasons of Winter and Spring.
The Kilchberg location is also home to Lindt & Sprüngli’s head
office, which is responsible for managing the company’s
worldwide operations through the planning of strategy, sharing
of best practices, and setting of financial goals.
